This is a question I get asked a lot, but the answer really depends on you!

There are several studies that have been conducted to investigate the effects of massage on individuals suffering with depression and anxiety. These studies have shown that the subjects psychologically and physiologically benefitted from the treatments, with an improvement in their condition.  There are also numerous counter arguments against these studies.

I listened to a pod cast recently, where an expert talks about the importance of looking at tests and studies with a critical eye and to ask yourself “What are these people trying to sell me?” He also points out that most studies will be repeated time and time again until they get the outcome they want.

It’s not to say that all tests and studies are wrong, falsified and have hidden agendas – that would be extremely dramatic!

I do however, believe that depression and anxiety are very personal illnesses, that can be unpredictable. Having a massage might not make you feel any better, it might only help some of the time, or it may be your favourite tool for preventing a panic attack.

I believe the answer to this question is to try it-and see for yourself!
